Asako Ito
Asako Ito's crochet Pokémon cards are cute and instantly recognizable. The visible stitches, soft shapes, and tiny handmade surroundings make each Pokémon look like something you'd want sitting on your shelf. They caught our eye long before we knew who made them, and soon had their own space in our binder.
Asako Ito Pokémon cards feature crocheted Pokémon in handmade scenes, with visible stitches and felt scenery that reward a closer look. These little yarn figures are known as amigurumi. Ito's work appeared in the Sun & Moon base set with Poliwag and has continued through later releases, including Altaria from Crown Zenith and Audino from Black Bolt. The relatively small card list makes an Asako Ito collection an appealing project, with room to grow as new cards appear.
Ito studied oil painting at university and taught herself to make amigurumi after seeing Mr. Bean's teddy bear and wanting to make one. In a 2026 interview with Pen Online (in Japanese), she explains how she works without written crochet patterns and builds the backgrounds herself. Even the furniture and cushions surrounding her Altaria were made from scratch.
